Your Hubitat Elevation hub automatically generates a backup every day at 2:15am by default, in your local time zone. These backups are stored on the hub for 5 days. After making changes to your hub (adding devices, automations, etc.), it is a good idea to save a manual backup to your computer or the cloud.

Backup your hub

  • NOTE: You may backup and restore files from a local disk anytime, but manual and automatic backup to the Hubitat cloud, including restore from cloud backup and Z-Wave radio migration requires a Hub Protect subscription.
  • Backup includes the hub database only. It does not backup files you have uploaded to your hub with File Manager. Please be sure you backup these files manually.
  1. Select Settings in the sidebar of your hub.
  2. Press the Backup and Restore card.
From the settings page, press the "Backup and Restore" card
  3. Select the Download button under the Create New Backup and Download Manually section (you can also download any of the automatic backups that have been stored). The backup will be saved on your computer, which can be uploaded later to restore your hub to a previous state if you desire.
You can press one of the download buttons to the right of the automatic backups to save the database backup file on your hub, to your computer. You can also press the download button at the lower left to manually save the current hub database, to a backup file on your computer.
  4. You may set the time for when database maintenance and backup to take place.
From the Backup and Restore settings page, you can set the time when backup and database cleanup should occur, and you can set the frequency for backup to occur
  5. You may also set the frequency for automatic backups.
You may set the frequency of backups by selecting one of the following eight options. Select "Daily", "Every other day", "Every three days", "Every five days", "Weekly", "Every two weeks", "Every three weeks", "Every four weeks", or "Disabled"

How to restore from backup

If you have made changes to your hub and want to go back to a previous saved backup, Hubitat Elevation makes it easy.

  1. Select Settings in the sidebar of your hub.
  2. Press the Backup and Restore card.
From the settings page, press the "Backup and Restore" card to access the restore option.
  3. If you want to restore from one of the automatic backup files, select the Restore button for the database backup you want to restore to your hub.
To the right of the hub database backup you want to restore, press the "Restore" button.
  4. If you want to restore the hub database from a backup file saved on your computer, select the Restore File button and choose the backup file you want to use.
To restore a database backup saved to your computer, press the "Choose file" button at the lower left, and then press the "Restore" button just below the "Choose file" button.
  5. Confirm the restore selection, and your Hubitat Elevation hub will return to the previously saved state.

How to restore the hub Platform to a previous version

If you are experiencing issues after updating your hub, you can try reverting to a previous hub Platform Version.

  1. Choose the link as shown here. This will open the Hubitat Diagnostic Tool.
If you want to restore your hub platform to a previous version, select the link just at the top left of the list of hub database backups. This will open the Hubbitat Diagnostic Tool where you can choose the hub platform version to restore.
  2. Follow the instructions in the Restore Previous Version section of the Hubitat Diagnostic Tool document.
