How it works

You can protect your Hubitat Elevation hub with an annual subscription for up to 5 secure cloud backups, including automation rules, settings, and devices. You can also migrate to a new hub, saving hours of time rebuilding rules and joining your Z-Wave devices.

Schedule backups You can set your own schedule for automatic backups or back up your hub manually at any time.

Extended Warranty

Hub Protect extends your 90-day Hubitat Elevation hub warranty for the duration of your subscription, subject to our Terms of Service. Should your hub fail due to a hardware defect during your subscription period, Hubitat will send you a replacement hub.

How to sign up for Hub Protect

  1. From your hub, select Subscriptions in the sidebar.
Access Subscriptions from the sidebar of your hub user interface
  2. If you receive a warning message that you have multiple administrator accounts, please see the How to correct a Multi Admin error document to correct the issue before proceeding.
If multiple Administrator accounts are detected, a warning message pops up on top of the hub user interface. To fix this, press the "Close" button on the message, then review the, "How to correct a Multi Admin error" document in the How-to section.
  3. Ensure you are logged into the Hubitat account you want add Hub Protect to and select the Sign up now button.
When there are no Multi Admin error messages and you are signed into your Hubbitat Portal account, select the subscription you want to sign up for from the subscription page.
  4. Enter a first and last name, along with credit card information.
Once you have selected your desired optional subscription service, enter your first and last name, along with your credit card information. If you have a coupon code, select the banner near the top of the page and enter the code.

Reed the terms of service and check the box indicating you agree in order to continue with your subscription purchase.
  6. Once again, press the Sign up now button.
With the checkbox selected, indicating you have read and agree to the terms of service, press the "Sign up now" button once more to continue.

Backup

With your hub now protected, you may set the time for when database maintenance and backup to the cloud will occur.

  1. Set the desired time for the database maintenance and backup.
From the Backup and Restore settings page, you can set the time when backup and database cleanup should occur, and you can set the frequency for backup to occur.
  2. You may also set the frequency of your cloud backups.
You may set the frequency of backups by selecting one of the following eight options. Select "Daily", "Every other day", "Every three days", "Every five days", "Weekly", "Every two weeks", "Every three weeks", "Every four weeks", or "Disabled"
  3. To restore your Hub Protect database backups, simply press the Restore button.
    • If you would like to manually backup the current database with Hub Protect, just press the Backup button.
To restore a backup from cloud storage, press the "Restore" button next to the desired backup

Migrate

You can migrate a cloud backup to a new hub, saving hours of time rebuilding rules and going through the lengthy process of excluding and including your Z-Wave devices.

IMPORTANT! If you receive a warranty replacement hub, your existing Hub Protect subscription from the defective hub will be automatically transferred to the new hub. In all other cases, your Hub Protect subscription is non-transferable and will remain with the original hub. If you Migrate your database from a hub that is subscribed to Hub Protect, to one that is not covered by a Hub Protect subscription, you may add a new Hub Protect subscription to that hub to use cloud backups and extend the warranty. Hub Protect subscriptions may be canceled any time and will remain active until the end of the subscription period.

  1. Save a new cloud backup.
    • NOTE: Make sure your existing hub is online and connected to the Hubitat cloud service.
    • If you are migrating from a Model C-5 hub, you should perform a Z-Wave Repair before uploading the cloud backup that will be used to migrate.
    • If you have turned on Enabled lockCode encryption in the lock driver settings, you should turn it OFF prior to saving the backup for migration to the new hub. The encryption key cannot be transferred to another hub, thus Lock Code Manager will no longer be able to read encrypted lock codes. You can turn on Enable lockCode encryption on the new hub once the migration has completed.
    • Model C-4 or C-5 hubs shipped to Australia and New Zealand with the ZWave.Me adapter will work with Z-Wave radio migration. Model C-4 or C-5 hubs utilizing other external Z-Wave adapters do not support Z-Wave radio migration.
This is a z-wave.me Z-Wave adapter. It is compatible with Z-Wave device migration for hubs shipped to Australia, and New Zealand
If you are migrating from a Model C-5 hub with a Z-Wave radio that is compatible with Z-Wave device migration, please run a Z-Wave repair before attempting to migrate the Z-Wave radio to your new hub.
On the Backup and Restore settings page, press the backup button on the "Cloud Backup" tab to perform a manual backup to the Hubbitat cloud server.
  2. If you have not already registered the new hub, you'll need to complete that before proceeding.
If you have not already registered your new hub, please do so before proceeding.
  3. Once you have completed registration of the new hub, please reboot it before continuing to the next step.
  4. When your new hub has completed the boot sequence and is online, select Settings from the sidebar and press the Backup and Restore card.
When your new hub has been registered and you have rebooted, press the "Backup and Restore" card on the settings page of your hub.
  5. Select the Cloud Backup tab and press the Migrate button for the most recent cloud backup of the hub you are migrating from.
Select the "Cloud Backup" tab and choose the most recent cloud backup of the hub your are migrating "from"
  6. When prompted check the option to Migrate Z-Wave Radio (recommended), if you would like to transfer your Z-Wave devices from the old hub without the need to manually exclude and join each device again on the new hub.
    • IMPORTANT! When selecting the Migrate Z-Wave Radio option, you should do the following additional steps.
      1. If you are migrating from a Model C-5 hub, you should perform a Z-Wave Repair before uploading the cloud backup. If you did not do this, repeat Migrate Step 1 above and then continue from Step 5.
      2. Disable the Z-Wave radio of the hub you are migrating from.
      3. Shut down the hub you are migrating from before you press the Migrate button. When the migration to the new hub is complete, you may again start up the hub you migrated from, but the Z-Wave radio should remain disable.
If you would like to also migrate the Z-Wave radio from your compatible hub, select the "Migrate Z-Wave Radio" checkbox in the pop-up window that appears over top of the hub user interface, then press the "Migrate" button in that window.
  7. Allow the database migration process to complete.
    • IMPORTANT! Hub Protect subscriptions are non-transferable. If you migrate your cloud backup to a new hub, you will need to buy a separate Hub Protect subscription to enjoy the cloud backup and extended warranty on the new hub.
Please wait while your hub restores from the backup. Your new hub will reboot when the process is complete.
  8. When the process has completed, the location name will be set to [Your old hub name] (new).
  9. Press the Hubitat Elevation logo to navigate to the home screen.
Press the Hubbitat Elevation logo at the top-left of your hub user interface
  10. Select Location and Modes, then update the name of your new hub.
Select the "Location and Modes" card to update the name of your new hub
The hub you migrated "to" will have the name of the old hub, with "New" in parenthesis. You will likely want to change this name to better identify the new hub by name or location.
  11. Zigbee devices are contained within the hub database and will be retained when you migrate, but it will be necessary to re-join devices to the new Zigbee radio by manually reseting them. Select Discover Devices from the Home page. You DO NOT need to delete the device from the hub. The existing device will be discovered with the response, Found Previously Joined Devices. The device should resume normal operation and all of your existing rules will be intact.
When a previously joined Zigbee device has been reset and discovered by the new hub, the hub will display the name of the device with the message, "Found Previously Joined Device".
